Antonio Brown has been all over the headlines recently. Last Sunday, he missed the game because he was benched for throwing a football in the direction of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He missed all of his team’s practices after Wednesday and ignored the calls from teammates as well as from team president Art Rooney II. The Steelers played without him this weekend and even though they won, they were unable to qualify for the playoffs after the Baltimore Ravens held on to defeat the Cleveland Browns.
Yesterday, reports surfaced saying that Brown has requested a trade while adding that Brown “has issues” with Big Ben and head coach Mike Tomlin. The reports said that Brown feels that Tomlin is “too aligned” with the Steelers’ franchise quarterback. Just a day later, someone reported that Brown no longer follows the Steelers on Instagram.
Even if he hasn’t requested a trade, we know that Brown doesn’t want to stay with the Steelers any longer. Roethlisberger opened up about the incident between him or Brown during last Wednesday’s practice, saying that he didn’t even realize there was a problem:
“I’m blessed to play with him. I consider him one of my closer friends…AB and I have been together for a long time and I owe so much of my success to him. So I consider him a really close friend on the team. I think the bigger thing is that I know some of the guys that I’ve talked to are just trying to reach out to him and haven’t heard back. So I think that’s what’s frustrating to a lot of guys.”
Brown has a contract with the Steelers that will keep him with the team until 2021. Since he is one of the best wide receivers in the league, we doubt that the Steelers will want to trade him. If they do decide to trade him, the Patriots could use him on their team.
